Faculty Training Programme (FTP) · DIC Hub, IIT Hyderabad

Teach design thinking by doing it first.

Five days at DIC Hub, IIT Hyderabad for teachers and practitioners. You'll take a real problem from first interview to tested prototype, then turn what you learned into something you can teach the week you get back.

Why it works

You can't teach a design cycle you've never run.

Design thinking doesn't live on slides. So we skip them. For five days you'll work the way your students will: out in the field, talking to people, making things, getting them wrong, and making them better.

Workshop in progress

School teachers

Bring it into the classroom

Subject teachers, Atal Tinkering Lab in-charges and school leaders putting NEP 2020's project-based learning into practice.

Students working in the studio

College & university faculty

Build studio courses

Faculty from engineering, management, science, humanities and design who want to teach through projects and juries.

Executive programme

Practitioners

Facilitate with confidence

Designers, trainers, L&D leads and public officers who run workshops and want a method that holds up.

The five days

From your first interview to a jury.

Each day pairs doing something with asking how you'd teach it.

DayFocusWhat happens
Day 1ImmerseA walk through DIC Hub and its labs. Why design thinking runs across every discipline. Teams form and pick a real brief.
Day 2Research & frameOut on campus: watching, interviewing, making sense of it. Then one sharp problem statement.
Day 3Ideate & prototypeLots of ideas, then rough prototypes built in the DIC makers' lab.
Day 4Test & translateTesting with real users. Then turning your project into a lesson, module or workshop, and practising how you'll run it.
Day 5Jury & certificationTeams present the project and the teaching unit to DIC Hub faculty. Certificates awarded.

Projects

Two projects. One for the world, one for your classroom.

Project 01

The design project

A real brief, worked in a team, from field research to a tested prototype, and judged by DIC Hub faculty. You feel the method the way your students will.

Project 02

The teaching project

A lesson, module or workshop for your own context, built on the curriculum and course book, and ready to run when you're back.

After the five days

Keep learning alongside DIC cohorts.

The immersion ends. The practice doesn't. Opt in to hybrid sessions with the student and professional cohorts at DIC Hub, IIT Hyderabad.

01

Online studios

Join live sessions and watch the method work with very different learners.

02

Co-mentoring

Co-mentor student projects in HCD Lab @ School and the IIT Hyderabad immersions.

03

Sitting in on juries

See how design work is judged, and calibrate your own eye.

04

Faculty community

Swap teaching units, briefs and results with other trained faculty.

What you take home

A certificate, a lesson, and a way forward.

Certification

DIC, IIT Hyderabad, with HCD Institute

A certificate from the Design Innovation Centre, IIT Hyderabad, awarded with The Institute of Human-Centred Design once you complete the immersion and the jury.

Research pathway

Towards research in design education

Mentoring from DIC Hub faculty and research scholars to shape a research question, from classroom studies to further study.

Practice

A teaching unit and a network

A lesson ready to run, a tested project for your portfolio, and a place in the HCD Institute faculty network.

Research pathways are mentored and selective. Admission to any research programme follows the host institution's own norms.
